Mark Glickman
General Manager
With over 20 years of hospitality experience, Mark Glickman has earned his reputation as one of the hospitality industry's most knowledgeable marketing and public relations advisors, providing marketing expertise and creative services for management companies and independent resorts to destinations and developments throughout the world. Glickman has worked with some of the top names in the hospitality industry from Pinehurst to Hawaii's Mauna Lani Resort. He is a frequent speaker on green marketing, crisis management and 'next generation' PR.
Glickman was recently selected as one of the "Top 25 Most Extraordinary Minds in Sales & Marketing" by the Hotel Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI).
Glickman is widely credited with changing the face of tourism in Virginia by founding both the Golf Virginia Resorts Association and the Ski Virginia Association. He served as President of both associations and testified to Virginia's General Assembly on behalf of the tourism industry on the benefits of public-private partnerships. Glickman collaborated with Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to help create the Virginia Green initiative and is currently serving on the Virginia Green Advisory committee to help develop criteria and standards for the Virginia Green golf industry certification.
Glickman's experience most recently includes Director of Resort Marketing & Sales for Hawaii's Mauna Lani Resort, one of the world's leading golf, spa and environmental resorts and Vice-President of Marketing for the EI Cid Resorts, the largest independent resort group in Mexico.
Well-known for work in the golf world, Glickman helped launch the Poplar Grove golf course, Sam Snead's final design. He has orchestrated the successful launches for Wintergreen's Rees Jones-designed Stoney Creek course, Tom Fazio's redesign of Firestone's West course, Lee Trevino`s El Cid course in Mexico, the Fazio Canyon's course at Barton Creek as well as the David Leadbetter Academy at Barton Creek, the Wintergreen Golf Academy and the Pinehurst Golf Institute. Most recently, Glickman developed green positioning for Hawaii's Mauna Lani resort that led to their selection as one of only 10 environmentally friendly golf resorts for Golf magazine's first-ever "Green Golf" award.
Glickman cut his teeth in New York with over 10 successful years as a public relations, advertising and marketing specialist where he promoted a variety of hospitality and entertainment clients, including two of the worlds top grossing restaurants Tavern on the Green and Maxwell's Plum. Glickman also launched the opening of the Potomac (now known as Sequoia), a $14 million dollar restaurant on the Washington Harbor in Washington, D.C.
Glickman left New York to join the management team at Wintergreen, an 11,000-acre resort and real estate community in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains and at the time, a well-kept secret. Through an aggressive marketing and publicity campaign, Glickman developed new national and international markets for the resort. In addition, he solicited national environmental, family, golf and tennis awards for the resort and positioned Wintergreen as one of the country's top year-round destinations.
He has conceived and coordinated special events such as the Tour du Pont cycling event, the Mazatlan Billfish Classic, the World's Largest Pumpkin and World's Longest Golf Drive from the top of a ski slope, Special Olympic ski competitions resulting in extensive national and international print and broadcast media exposure, and the first-ever Virginia Golf Sweepstakes. Through his innovative special events, he has also helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years for charities such as the Sunshine Foundation and the Special Olympics.
